Cops: Mom Stashes Baby in Trunk to Avoid Ticket

A Florida woman who feared getting a ticket for driving without a car seat hatched a scheme to hide the infant in the trunk that landed her in far worse trouble, say police. When deputies in Broward County tried to pull over 19-year-old Breona Watkins for a traffic violation yesterday, they say she drove for another quarter-mile before pulling over, reports the Sun Sentinel. During that quarter-mile, police say she instructed her 14-year-old passenger to stash a 5-month-old baby he was holding into the trunk via the back-seat panel, according to a police report cited by the Smoking Gun. Fifteen minutes after she pulled over, deputies heard the baby crying, opened the trunk, and found the infant inside, cranky but otherwise OK.
