Charlottesville police held a press conference today to discuss their investigation into the alleged gang rape at the University of Virginia reported in Rolling Stone, and, according to the AP, they announced they've suspended their investigation after being unable to confirm the rape happened as described—partially because the alleged victim, known only as "Jackie," refused to cooperate. The investigation, however, is suspended and not closed in case Jackie wants to cooperate further in the future. The lack of evidence "doesn't mean something terrible didn't happen," said the police chief. (More University of Virginia stories.)
