Come 2017, the world will have a new largest hotel by room count—by a hefty margin. The Guardian takes a look at what's coming to Saudi Arabia's Mecca: the $3.5 billion Abraj Kudai, which will sit about a mile from the Grand Mosque and feature one of the largest domes in the world. The numbers associated with the hotel, designed by architectural firm Dar Al-Handasah, are wild. Five standouts:

  • 4: helipads atop the hotel
  • 5: floors to be exclusively used by the Saudi royal family
  • 12: towers, which sit atop a 10-story podium. USA Today reports 10 will offer 4-star luxury, and two 5-star.
  • 70: restaurants
  • 10,000: bedrooms. That quashes the current record-holder for rooms, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, which CNN reports has 6,198 rooms.
