It's just a matter of hours now: South Carolina's governor signed into law this afternoon a measure that orders the Confederate flag to be removed from the Statehouse grounds, reports AP. "We will bring it down with dignity and we will make sure it is stored in its rightful place," said Gov. Nikki Haley. The flag, scheduled to come down at 10am Eastern tomorrow, will go into the state's "relic room." Haley's signing of the law came after the state House passed the measure early this morning, with Rep. Jenny Home, a self-declared descendant of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, gaining much attention for her impassioned speech to take it down. (More Confederate flag stories.)
