Sandra Bland's Mom Sues Trooper Who Arrested Her
In this July 10, 2015 file frame from dashcam video provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety, trooper Brian Encinia arrests Sandra Bland.   (Texas Department of Public Safety via AP, File)

Sandra Bland's family has decided to sue. Bland's mother today filed a federal wrongful death suit against the Texas Department of Public Safety trooper who arrested her daughter, among others, reports the Houston Chronicle. Geneva Reed-Veal names the department itself; Waller County Sheriff's Office employees Elsa Magnus and Oscar Prudente (both screening officers at the jail Bland was taken to); that office; and Waller County itself as defendants. The 46-page complaint asks for a jury trial and unspecified monetary damages. How the AP frames the suit: "Attorney Cannon Lambert says Sandra Bland's family filed the lawsuit Tuesday seeking answers the family hasn't gotten." (More Sandra Bland stories.)
