Stocks are closing lower on Wall Street, led by declines in energy stocks as the price of crude oil took a tumble, the AP reports. The price of oil dropped 3% Tuesday after the International Energy Agency cut its forecast for global demand growth. Oil and gas companies took hefty losses. NRG Energy lost 8% and Chesapeake Energy also gave up 8%. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 258 points, or 1.4%, to 18,066. The Standard & Poor's 500 index declined 32 points, or 1.5%, to 2,127. The Nasdaq composite dropped 56 points, or 1.1%, to 5,155. The declines were broad. Apple was the only Dow stock to finish higher. Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.72%. (Read more Dow Jones stories.)
