Cops in Coin-Flip Arrest Are Fired

Heads, you get fired. Tails ... you get fired. Two police officers seen using a coin-flip app to determine whether to arrest a woman pulled over for speeding in Georgia have lost their jobs. Courtney Brown and Kristee Wilson failed to perform at an "acceptable level" in engaging in conduct "which adversely affects the efficiency of the department and has a tendency to destroy public respect," Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant wrote in a Thursday termination letter, reports NBC News.

Previously placed on administrative leave, the officers responded to a reckless driving call in Roswell on April 7, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In a body camera video, driver Sarah Webb apologizes for driving fast, claiming she's late for work. Noting they have no radar gun or tickets, the officers privately decide to use a coin-toss app: heads, arrest; tails, release. Despite the tails result, Webb was arrested on charges of speeding, reckless driving, and driving too fast for conditions. Those charges were later dropped. (More coin toss stories.)
