(Newser) – If the policies of the Trump White House are known for resulting in testy family get-togethers, we now know that Stephen Miller's own family is not immune. In a biting essay at Politico, the uncle of the top Trump adviser calls his nephew a hypocrite for pushing tough immigration policies. If the same policies were in place years ago, neither he nor his nephew would be in the US right now, writes retired neuropsychologist David Glosser. Their family's immigration tale begins with Wolf-Leib Glosser, who lived in what is now Belarus and fled anti-Jewish pogroms to arrive at Ellis Island in 1903. He worked hard and managed to bring over other family members to the US, the result being a successful chain of supermarkets and department stores.

"I have watched with dismay and increasing horror as my nephew, who is an educated man and well aware of his heritage, has become the architect of immigration policies that repudiate the very foundation of our family’s life in this country," writes Glosser, who is the brother of Miller's mother. Miller, he adds, is a direct result of the "chain migration," or family migration, that the White House under Donald Trump wants to eliminate. "History will be the judge, but in the meanwhile the normalization of these policies is rapidly eroding the collective conscience of America," he writes.
