(Newser) – A teen visiting from Israel fell to his death at Yosemite National Park Tuesday after it seems he tried to take a selfie near a famous waterfall, the Times of Israel reports. Tomer Frankfurter, 18, who BuzzFeed notes was on a two-month vacation before joining the Israeli military, is believed by authorities to have climbed up on a cliff near Nevada Fall to take a picture of himself when he lost his footing and plummeted about 820 feet. He apparently had been standing on a wobbly rock, Israel's Channel 10 reports, via BakersfieldNow.com.

The Jerusalem Post notes that it's common for Israeli youth to go on an extended vacation—often to the US, South America, or Asia—either before or after their army service. Frankfurter's body was recovered Wednesday and was being sent back to Israel for burial. The Mariposa County coroner has deemed Frankfurter's death accidental. The Fresno Bee reports he's the sixth person to die at Yosemite this year. (Read more Yosemite National Park stories.)
