You've heard of sour grapes. Now comes crushed grapes. Sen. Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, got a little payback against Mitch McConnell over a reported political threat. As the Hill reports, Manchin dropped off a jar of jam with "crushed grapes" on the label to the Senate majority leader's office. (Manchin himself tweeted an image Thursday.) Why? In the new book Team of Vipers by former White House adviser Cliff Sims, McConnell is quoted telling President Trump that Republicans would defeat Manchin in the 2018 midterms. In fact, "we're going to crush him like a grape," McConnell reportedly promised. Manchin, however, prevailed. Politico has a full excerpt of the Trump-McConnell conversation here.
