While it always feels like a win to score a cheap plane ticket, price isn't the only factor that makes an airline desirable. WalletHub looked at the nine biggest domestic airlines, plus three regional carriers, examining four categories: safety; incidents involving animals; in-flight comfort and cost; and baggage, departures, and complaints. Coming in at the top of the list: Alaska Airlines, which also ranks as the safest airline. Here, how the rest of the rankings fell, with each airline's corresponding score out of 100:

  1. Alaska Airlines; 63.5
  2. Delta Air Lines; 59.7
  3. SkyWest Airlines; 56.7
  4. Spirit Airlines; 52.9
  5. ExpressJet Airlines; 51
  6. Hawaiian Airlines; 48.7
  7. United Airlines; 45.9
  8. JetBlue Airlines; 45
  9. Southwest Airlines; 39
  10. American Airlines; 38.4
