A good education leads to better jobs, and who wouldn't want that opportunity? How long you're immersed in schooling, and where you get it, can make all the difference. WalletHub looked at all 50 states to determine which provide the best education, analyzing 18 metrics in two main categories: educational attainment, which looks at the share of grown-ups age 25 and up who've reached various educational levels; and quality of education, which takes into account such factors as the quality of local school systems, test scores, and graduation rates. Massachusetts tops the rankings, while West Virginia comes in last. Here are the other states rounding out the top and bottom 10:

Most Educated

  1. Massachusetts (No. 1 in both "Educational Attainment," "Quality of Education" categories)
  2. Maryland
  3. Connecticut
  4. Vermont
  5. Colorado
  6. New Jersey
  7. Virginia
  8. New Hampshire
  9. Minnesota
  10. Utah

Least Educated

  1. Texas
  2. New Mexico
  3. Kentucky
  4. Nevada
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Alabama
  7. Arkansas
  8. Louisiana
  9. Mississippi
  10. West Virginia (last in "Educational Attainment" category)
