Sean Avery apologized today for his tasteless joke about "sloppy seconds," but his Dallas Stars coach doesn't think he'll ever be back on the team, the Dallas Morning News reports. Avery will meet tomorrow with NHL chief Gary Bettman to learn how long he will be suspended for his joke to reporters about fellow players dating his ex-girlfriends.

"I would like to sincerely apologize for my off-color remarks," said Avery, who had wondered the previous day why players keep falling "in love with my sloppy seconds." Said coach Dave Tippett: "I find it hard to believe that Sean could come back in that dressing room and we could find that continuity again." If the team cuts him loose, it would still have to pay his four-year, $15.5 million salary, or it could trade him.
