Covering Rod Blagojevich—aka “Gov. Dead Meat”—has been so much fun for Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass that in today’s mailbag column, a reader asks how much he’s paying Blago for the “gift that keeps on giving.” Kass’ reply: “As our esteemed governor famously said, this thing is ‘bleeping golden.’” But Blago isn’t just a gift for Kass, he’s a gift for America, which finally gets a look at the Illinois political machine.

Another reader asks Kass why Blago has that “secretive look of the demented” in his eyes. “You’ll find that same predatory gaze in the eyes of most Illinois politicians,” Kass replies. It reveals "a hunger for all things bleeping golden.” That includes Barack Obama. By not calling for a special election, Obama proved “he is not the gentle faun, the Mr. Tumnus, of the Daley machine,” but a full-fledged member. (More Rod Blagojevich stories.)
