Americans have a unique connection with Barack Obama—one they might want to discuss with a therapist, writes Judith Warner in the New York Times. From strange dreams to sexual obsessions, everyone seems hung up on the president. Warner has dreamed about him taking a shower and smoking in the house; asked to (over)share, one LA woman replied, “Barack and Michelle look like they have sex. Often. With each other.”

It’s probably because the president seems so familiar. “Notwithstanding his somewhat exotic life story, I feel like I understand what he’s like,” said one Washington man. Of course, for many, that’s not a good thing. “They seem to have it all together—a great marriage, beautiful children, a modern-day Norman Rockwell family,” said one divorced Harvard grad. “Why them, not me?” (More Barack Obama stories.)
