Young Sidelined as Redskins Topple Titans

Titans chief Jeff Fisher tested out a new spot for his star QB in the preseason opener against Washington: the bench. Pro Bowler Vince Young was moored for violating an unspecified team rule, putting Kerry Collins and Tim Rattay in charge of Tennessee's offense last night. Neither backup could find the end zone, and the Titans fell 14-6.

Tennessee's two field goals almost proved enough, but Washington scored twice in the final 1:14, on a one-yard rush followed hard upon by a fumble recovery in the end zone. The Tennessean reports that Young spent the night at home instead of a hotel, a violation of a rule for young players. But Fisher says he'll start this Friday's game against a vaunted New England squad. (More NFL stories.)
