The "Church of Obama" is losing parishioners quickly, writes Dana Milbank. These are the liberal supporters who saw him as a "transformational figure who would end war, save the Earth from global warming, restore the economy—and still be home for dinner." The Afghanistan descision seems to have been the last straw for many, with big names like Michael Moore and Arianna Huffington questioning his leadership.

Milbank points out in the Washington Post that Obama the candidate never promised to end the war—just the opposite, in fact—but no matter. On this and other matters, he had inexplicably become a larger-than-life figure for liberals and progressives, and they deserve just as much blame as the president for their disillusionment.
