An armed gang of masked men raided a Swiss casino packed with about 600 guests early today and made off with hundreds of thousands of dollars. Prosecutors in Basel described a scene like an action-film heist: About 10 men dressed in black and speaking French stormed the Grand Casino shortly after 4am. After emptying cash registers, but failing to gain entry to the strong room, the men quickly fled in two Silver Audis.

"The criminals fired a number of shots, but luckily no one was hit," said a police statement. The Grand Casino is located little more than 200 meters from Switzerland's border with France. German authorities say they have arrested five suspects. (More casino stories.)
