Miami Herald Runs Ad Congratulating NBA Champions the Miami Heat
MIAMI, FL - JUNE 12: LeBron James #6 of the Miami Heat walks into the interview room to answer questions after the Heat were defeated 105-95 by the Dallas Mavericks in Game Six of the 2011 NBA Finals at American Airlines Arena on June 12, 2011 in Miami, Florida. At least Miami Heat fans have one positive newspaper clipping for the scrapbook. The morning after the Heat lost the NBA finals to the Dallas Mavericks, the Miami Herald mistakenly ran a nearly full-page Macy's ad congratulating the Heat on its "win" and offering championship T-shirts and hats. And a little more salt-in-the-wound: NPR notes that the ad appeared just below a story with the headline, "Heat Just Never Got The Point During Finals Loss To More-Organized Mavs."

Though ads are prepared by papers ahead of time, this one really never should have appeared in today's edition: Even if the Heat won last night, they would have needed to win a future Game 7 to secure the championship. The Herald later posted a brief correction: "A Macy's advertisement featuring Miami HEAT merchandise was mistakenly published on page 11D of the June 13th edition of the Miami Herald. We regret the error and apologize for any inconvenience." (More Miami Heat stories.)
