Two notable obituaries from the wires today:
- Kara Kennedy, 51, the oldest child of the late Ted Kennedy, died at a Washington health club, reports AP. She had battled lung cancer since 2002. "She's with dad," said brother Patrick. "Her heart gave out." She has a son and daughter, both teens, with her now-divorced husband, Michael Allen. She kept a fairly low profile but was active in charity and philanthropic circles. More at the Boston Globe.
- Former Illinois Sen. Charles Percy: A moderate Republican, he was a fierce opponent of the Vietnam War and the "first senator to call for a special prosecutor to investigate Watergate," writes the Chicago Tribune. He also was a successful businessman whose own legitimate presidential aspirations never came to pass. Percy, 91, had Alzheimer's. He is the father-in-law of Sen. John D. Rockefeller, D-W.Va.
