Michelle Obama comes to Ann Romney's defense on Twitter today, without mentioning her by name. "Every mother works hard, and every woman deserves to be respected. –mo," she wrote on her Twitter feed, notes Politico. Romney has been at the center of the latest campaign brouhaha after Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen complained that she has "never worked a day in her life." David Axelrod and others have been distancing themselves from the remark.

Romney herself brushed off the criticism again today on Fox News, noting that she chose to stay home to raise a family. “She should have come to my house when those five boys were causing so much trouble, it wasn’t so easy,” she said, laughing. “My career choice was to be a mother. And I think all of us need to know that we need to respect the choices that women make. Other women make other choices to have a career and raise a family, which I think Hilary Rosen has actually done herself. I respect that, that’s wonderful. ... We have to respect women in all those choices that they make.” (More Michelle Obama stories.)
