A Hofstra University student who lived in an off-campus house with her twin sister is dead after an armed burglar broke into the house overnight, reports the Daily News. The gunman also was killed. The details of what happened were unclear this afternoon, but the gunshots apparently began after police arrived about 2:30am. The Daily News and the New York Post identify the student as 20-year-old junior Andrea Rebello.

Police say the masked intruder burst into the home about 2:20 after someone answered his knock at the door. The twin sisters, a male, and a third woman were inside. The intruder ordered the third woman to leave and withdraw money from an ATM, and she called police immediately upon leaving the house. Today is the last day of exams on the Long Island campus.
