The government has shut down—"thanks to the tireless efforts of a few brave House Republican morons"—but Fox News doesn't seem too upset about it, Jon Stewart observed on last night's Daily Show, playing clips of pundits noting that the sky hadn't fallen nor had the sun gone out. "No one told you a government shutdown would have the same effect as an asteroid hitting the planet," Stewart said. "Although, quick note, the government shutdown did affect the program that would tell us if that was happening."

Of course, Stewart also noted that there were other serious consequences of the shutdown as well. Most notably, it'll hit the supplemental nutrition program poor mothers rely on. But Republicans don't seem to care. Stewart played a clip he said "utterly expresses this world view" in which Sean Hannity guest Todd Starnes jokes that Democrats think it's "time to grab the potted meat and Tang and get in your survival bunker," eliciting huge guffaws from Hannity and his other guests. "F--K YOU!" Stewart cried. "I know that for you potted meat and Tang is shorthand for s--t you wouldn't possibly imagine eating unless there was a catastrophe, but for the people actually affected by the government shutdown, it's the s--t they eat that they can no longer afford."
