The most unusual lawsuit of the day comes via the Oakland Press of Michigan, which reports that a 10-year-old girl is taking her mother's ex-boyfriend to court to try to get her dog back. Hannah Wise maintains that Mitchell Rechter reneged on an informal deal they struck and won't give back a poodle named Mystery. (Hannah and her mom lived with Rechter for four years but moved out after the breakup.) “Based on the length of time, my client is attached to the dog and wants to keep it," Rechter's attorney wrote. He and his client deny Hannah's version of events, and now the courts will have to decide Mystery's fate. A trial date is set, but not until next July. (More lawsuit stories.)
