5 Craziest Crimes of the Week

It may have been Christmas week, but that didn't make for an absence of crazy and tragic crimes:

  1. Woman's DUI Leads to Ridiculous Chain of DUIs: It would be comical if it weren't so pathetic: Police in Readington Township, NJ, have reported a most bizarre chain of events, beginning with a patrolman who pulled over a car that was swerving and smelled alcohol emanating from it.
  2. Man Throws Son From NYC High-Rise, Jumps: A New York City man embroiled in a custody dispute threw his 3-year-old from the roof of a 52-story Manhattan apartment building on West 60th Street before jumping to his death this week. He had allegedly told his wife he would take the boy "unless she signed over the house to him."

  1. Police: Teenager Killed Trying to Enter Her Own House: "The initial call came in as a burglary-in-progress," a police spokesman said. The truth was far different, and the result much worse. The alleged burglar was a 14-year-old in Colorado who had reportedly been trying to sneak back into her house through a window.
  2. Surgeon Accused of Branding Initials on Patient's Liver: When a liver-transplant patient ended up back in the operating room for an unrelated procedure, the surgeon noticed an odd thing: The letters "SB" were branded on the patient's liver.
  3. Cops: Call Girl Shoots John Who Ran Out on Bill: Walking out on a bill isn't just bad manners; as one Florida man discovered recently, it's also dangerous. David Roberts tells police he made an appointment at a prostitute's home, but then slipped out while she was in the bathroom after doing the deed.
