A father-daughter pair in Fairbanks left physical therapy a little worse for the wear after the dad's gun accidentally discharged as he was taking it out of a holster and putting it in a jacket pocket. The man, a corrections officer not being named by the News Miner, was packing a .40-caliber pistol that went off; the bullet passed through his forearm, grazed the right thigh of his 12-year-old daughter, then hit her left thigh. She was operated on and released the next day; she had been in physical therapy to strengthen her leg so that she could play volleyball after a knee sprain. Those plans are now on hold for next year. "She doesn’t hate her daddy," says the girl's mother, "but she’s going to need to work through some things as time goes by. I know he’s going to be right there helping her." He could face one count of reckless endangerment. (More shooting stories.)
