(Newser) – Paris Hilton fans are rallying to keep the heiress out of an orange jumpsuit. More than 1,000 have signed an online petition to Gov. Schwarzenegger to pardon her for the parole-violation conviction that otherwise will cost her 45 days in jail. The grounds: that she "provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world."

The appeal to the Governator puts mercy for the reality show princess on a par with Gerald Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon. Meanwhile, the L.A. Times profiles the church-going, Shakespeare-quoting Superior Court judge who felt the situation called for more than a wrist-slap. Demurred judge Michael Sauer: "I don't care to be the DUI judge to the stars." (Read more Paris Hilton stories.)
