Stars Stumble in Predators' Onslaught
Colorado Avalanche left winger Ryan Smyth, bottom, is attended to by head trainer Matt Sokolowski, right, and an unidentified medical technician after Smyth was hurt when hit by a player form the Los Angeles Kings late in the second period of an NHL hockey game in Denver on Saturday, March 1, 2008....   (Associated Press)

Brad Richards' second game with Dallas was "a little bit of a letdown," as the Stars couldn't get anything going against Nashville. Giving up turnovers right and left and going 0-7 on the power play, the Stars lost their third of the last 16 games 3-1, the Dallas Morning News reports. On other NHL ice:

  • Colorado's decisive 5-2 defeat of Los Angeles came at a price, as Marek Svatos left with a knee injury and Ryan Smyth was carted off on a stretcher after a thunderous (but legal) hit.
  • Mats Sundin scored one goal and assisted on both others as Toronto beat Washington 3-2, calling the Capitals' playoff hopes in question.
