The Providence Friars haven’t done much against Big East opponents this season, but they have managed to dominate UConn, beating the Huskies again tonight for a season sweep, 85-76.   The win was big for Providence, as they’re on the brink of missing the Big East tournament. UConn has already clinched a first-round bye.  Elsewhere in college hoops:

  • St. Joe’s, playing at home, beat 11th-ranked Xavier, 71-66.  Currently on the NCAA bubble, the Hawks may have given the tournament folks enough reason to include them in post-season play.
  • Illinois made it interesting in the first half, but Michigan State came away with a 59-51 victory tonight, despite minimal production from an illness-plagued Raymar Morgan, the team’s leading scorer.
