A New York state woman is accused of killing her infant daughter and living with the body for about three months, the Daily News reports. Christina Colantonio, 28, has been arraigned and jailed in Batavia, NY, on the charge of second-degree murder. "Batavia police detectives were able to determine that the child was born at home," a detective says, and adds that Colantonio "kept the deceased infant there for a prolonged period of time." Authorities say the baby's death happened shortly after birth and was "intentionally caused," although an autopsy report is still pending.
"This is a shock, this is really a shock," a neighbor tells WHEC. "Never any noise [from Colantonio's apartment]—that's why I'm shocked that this happened. It's out of character for this girl." An acquaintance apparently noticed the body in Colantonio's apartment and reported it to authorities. Police say Colantonio has two other kids, but didn't reveal where they live or say anything about the father. "It’s horrible," says another neighbor on Liberty Street. "You would never think that it would happen here. You would definitely think somewhere like State Street, where it’s a little crazier." (Read more infanticide stories.)
