A postal worker was on the job in suburban Memphis Friday afternoon when a man apparently tossed acid on her, the Commercial Appeal reports. She was sitting in her truck at the time, WATN notes, and another Commercial Appeal article says the acid struck her face. Unnamed in media reports, the woman drove herself to a hospital and received care for chemical burns; she was later released from another medical center in non-critical condition, police say. The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s who wore dark clothing with a blue skull cap.
"We actually give her Christmas gifts every year," neighbor Sam Sanders tells WMCA Action News 5 of the postal worker. "It's unusual for this street. It's pretty quiet over here." A $25,000 reward has been offered for anyone who can help authorities catch the perpetrator. But for Sanders, it means being a little more cautious in Raleigh, a suburb of north-central Memphis. "Just have to be aware, be careful, looking out," he says. (Read more acid attack stories.)
