The 16-year-old Houston boy charged with murdering his parents called 911 himself around 1:40am Friday, telling dispatchers he was hiding in a closet after hearing gunshots and seeing a masked man inside the house. But police say when they arrived, the alarm was still set and there was no sign of forced entry; the teen actually disabled the security system to let them in, the Houston Chronicle reports. Police found former NFL player Antonio Armstrong and his wife, Dawn, shot in the head in their bed with pillows over their faces, KHOU reports.

A gun belonging to Antonio had been used; police found it on a kitchen counter along with a handwritten note, but found no signs of a robbery or burglary. The suspect, who is not being named due to his age, admitted he had played with the gun in the weeks before the shooting, but insists he didn't kill his parents. Police arrested him Friday after he was "not able to give a convincing story of any kind," says the assistant DA. His 12-year-old sister was home at the time of their murders and slept through the incident. More than a dozen family members were in court for the teen's first appearance Monday; one called out, "We love you, man," as he was led away. (More murder stories.)
