(Newser) – One person was killed when a driver rammed into a group of pedestrians in San Francisco after threatening them with an ax, CBS SF reports. Police say the incident started shortly before 10:30am Wednesday when the driver got into a physical altercation with a group of people. A witness says the driver got out of his van and chased after the group with an ax. A witness tells KRON that one of the members of the group took out a belt and fought with the driver. The witness tells CBS that the group eventually got the ax away from the driver, who got back into his van. (Officials have not confirmed witness accounts.) Police say the driver then drove onto the sidewalk and into the group at a high rate of speed.
