A tragic end for a British couple that moved to Australia less than a year ago: Jason Francis was out day-drinking in Perth on Saturday with friends who said they put him in a cab home to his girlfriend of eight years after he became drunk. The 29-year-old reportedly ended up lying in the road, where a teenage pizza delivery driver who possibly didn't see him struck Francis around 8pm. Alice Robinson, who news.com.au reports was at home "only meters away," saw emergency responders' lights and went outside. There, she learned Francis had been hurt, reports the Times of London. He died in the hospital.

Hours after leaving the hospital, Robinson was found dead in her car in what is believed to be a suicide. Her mother wrote on Facebook, "I am devastated to let everyone know that my beautiful daughter was so distraught she could not bear to live without her beloved Jase and chose to take her own life." The head of the rugby club Francis was a part of said "these are two beautiful souls that we have lost far too early, and were loved like family." A GoFundMe page set up to help pay to have their bodies returned to England had raised more than $39,000 as of Saturday. (More Australia stories.)
