(Newser) – The search for Maleah Davis has come to a close. Police on Monday confirmed that human remains found in a garbage bag along an Arkansas road last week are those of the missing Houston 4-year-old. Click2Houston reports a cause of death has yet to be determined. Activist Quanell X had earlier said that during a jailhouse visit with suspect Derion Vence, Vence confessed to killing Maleah and told Quanell where the body was located. "All I can say is he told me it was an accident, and that she is dead and where he dumped her body," Quanelll said of Vence, the ex-fiance of Maleah's mother.

In a statement, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo wrote that his department "will not rest until justice is served in this case." While saddened, he said "we are heartened by the fact this sweet child can now receive the proper burial she deserved and that those who knew and loved her most desired." The Houston Chronicle reports the Harris County District Attorney's Office is now expected to charge Vence with murder; he is currently jailed on a charge of tampering with a corpse.
