(Newser) – Police in Illinois say a woman who shot a retired state trooper in the head before turning the gun on herself had written the man's name on the wall of her condo along with the words, "I hate you" and "hope you ... die." Lisa McMullan, 51, was a regular at Humidor Cigar Lounge in Lisle, Illinois, where surveillance video captured her shooting 51-year-old Greg Rieves and two others seated with him around 10pm Friday, police tell WGN. State trooper Kaiton Bullock, 48, and 55-year-old Lloyd Graham, a retired special agent with Illinois State Police, survived with injuries—they're now listed in stable condition—but Rieves was pronounced dead, as was McMullan, who shot herself, per CBS Chicago.

In a search of McMullan's Chicago condo, police say they found the words, "I hate you … Hope you two die!" alongside Rieves' name and that of another man, who was found safe. Police have only said that McMullan and Rieves knew each other, while WLS suggests a prior romantic relationship. A witness tells CBS that McMullan was at the cigar lounge "all of the time" and was known for a distinct laugh that could be heard "a half hour before this happened." Other witnesses said there had been no argument or other disturbance before shots were fired as the victims watched TV. McMullan had a valid Firearm Owners Identification card and a concealed-carry license, per the Chicago Sun-Times. (Read more murder-suicide stories.)
