A drive-by shooting in a city near Frankfurt has left eight people dead at two shisha bars. Police said the same attackers appeared to have opened fire from a car at both places in Hanau around 10pm local time, the Mirror reports. Another five people were seriously wounded. The suspects fled, per the Guardian. Hanau is a city of about 100,000 on the Mein River, east of Frankfurt.

The suspects fled, and police, using helicopters, were searching for them early Thursday. Police said in a statement that the motive wasn't immediately clear, per the AP, and asked for witnesses to contact them. (Read more drive-by shooting stories.)
