Horrific: Participants in a Zoom conference call Thursday afternoon ended up being present for a murder. A New York man was fatally stabbed during the video call, prompting other attendees to phone 911, NBC News reports. Long Island police say Dwight Powers' son, who is 32 or 33, carried out the attack on the 72-year-old; he allegedly fled the scene in Amityville, but was caught and arrested. About 20 people were on the videoconference, ABC-7 reports, and the New York Times adds that some of them realized that Powers went from appearing on the screen to being absent. "They just noticed him fall off the screen and then they heard heavy breathing," said a detective with the Suffolk County police homicide squad.

Police say some of those in the meeting may have seen part of the attack, as they were able to provide a description of the son. "Bedsheets were being ripped off the bed by a gentleman who appeared to be naked as well as bald and he had a tattoo on his left arm, and then he placed the bedsheets on the floor as if he was covering something up," said one witness of the crime. The victim's son faces second-degree murder charges. Police haven't commented on what kind of meeting was being held. (More murder stories.)
