Obama VP Pick Imminent, Campaign Message Hints

Barack Obama supporters got an email from campaign manager David Plouffe last night saying the senator was “about to make one of the most important decisions of this campaign—choosing a running mate,” and urging them to sign up to be the “first to know.” Will Obama interrupt his Hawaiian get-away to pick his VP? Not likely. “Sometimes an email is just an email,” Obama’s communications director told the Washington Post.

More likely, the email is just attempting to add more email addresses and telephone numbers to Obama’s databanks, giving him more ways of contacting, and mobilizing, supporters. Conventional wisdom dictates that neither candidate will make a choice during the Olympics, but this has been a highly unconventional campaign. (More Barack Obama stories.)
