Out magazine has released its annual Power 50 list of movers and shakers in the LGBT community, and it’s chock full of drama. The Democratic ascendancy has catapulted Barney Frank—“the only left-handed, gay, Jewish congressman”—to the top spot, pushing Ellen DeGeneres back to No. 2. The top 10 also includes conservative gadfly Matt “I go to straight bars. I go to gay bars” Drudge. The next three:

  • Ellen DeGeneres: Even her high-profile marriage to Portia de Rossi couldn't help her keep the top spot, but her ability to connect with Middle America puts her at a solid No. 2.
  • Anderson Cooper: Not out per se, but the Real Housewives-loving anchor was the go-to guy on news TV during the tumultous election, and takes No. 3.
  • Rachel Maddow: That "the first openly gay host of a prime-time news show" routinely beats Larry King is a "reflection of shifting tides," and puts the MSNBC firebrand at No. 4.
