Google is looking to make its mark on an unexpected sector of business: fashion. The experiment comes in the form of an e-shopping website called Boutiques.com. The site is multi-faceted, combining the stores of hundreds of virtual boutiques organized either by designer or "curated" by celebrities, bloggers, and assorted fashionistas, explains the New York Times.

But the crown jewel of Boutiques is a learning algorithm that keeps track of your preferences, combined with a visualizer for possible purchases. If you see a pair of shoes and would like to see them in a slightly different style, Boutiques will create a picture for you. And if you've expressed a preference for that style in the past, it will automatically suggest the variation in the visualizer window.
