LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini will be named Nebraska's head football coach early next week, reports ESPN, citing multiple sources. Pelini has a tie to the Cornhuskers, for whom he was defensive coordinator in 2003. Pelini and University of Buffalo coach and former Husker QB Turner Gill reportedly were interim athletic director Tom Osborne's finalists to replace Bill Callahan, who was fired Saturday.

The announcement won't come until Monday, at the earliest, because Pelini has a prior commitment, with LSU playing in the SEC Championship game tomorrow against Tennessee. In addition to jobs at several major college programs, he also spent eight years in the NFL. He would actually take over for Osborne, who is currently on the recruiting trail as Nebraska's interim coach. (More Nebraska Cornhuskers stories.)
