Newt Gingrich got his hat handed to him in Nevada last night, and Saturday Night Live heaped insult on injury. The show ribbed Gingrich's "moon shot" with a sketch envisioning him as "moon president" in the not-so-distant time of 2014, notes Mediaite. Highlights include a student-janitor telling Newt, “The people of South Carolina wanted you to be president." Responds Gingrich: “Not all of America is as forward-thinking as South Carolina."

And while that was all fine and good, "Bon Iver and Kristen Wiig’s portrayal of Lana Del Rey were the night's standout moments," notes Aaron Couch at the Hollywood Reporter. Wiig's spoof defended against backlash to Del Rey's performance on the show three weeks ago, telling Seth Meyers, "Based on the public’s response, I must have clubbed a baby seal while singing the Taliban national anthem." Channing Tatum hosted. Check out highlights from the show in the gallery. (More Saturday Night Live stories.)
