A woman in South Portland, Maine, called police yesterday because a homeless man was spending a very long time at the ATM she wanted to use. Turns out, he was doing so for good reason. He kept asking the machine for money, and the machine kept spitting it out, reports WGME. By the time police arrived, he had stuffed $37,000 of the bank's cash into a bag after more than 50 transactions. "It is illegal," a police official tells the Bangor Daily News. "He is taking money that doesn’t belong to him." (The homeless man's bank account held about $100.) Cops gave the loot back to the bank, which decided not to press charges. A spokesperson chalked up the ATM glitch to a code error. (Click to read about a teen that got in hot water for spending thousands of dollars that his bank mistakenly put into his account.)
