A most unfortunate butt-dial and an altercation about meatballs are among the weirdest crime stories of the week:

  • Guy Butt-Dials 911, Gets Busted for Drugs: There's no need for phone-tapping when criminals call the police on themselves. That's what allegedly happened to Grant O'Connor, 25, when police say he butt-dialed 911 as he chatted about a dealer and doing drugs. Naturally, officials traced the call.
  • Man Stabs Co-Worker Over ... Meatballs: A Maryland man learned last week not to mess with a co-worker's meal when he swiped a single meatball. Apparently uninterested in sharing, the assailant—identified only as a 31-year-old from Edgewood—allegedly did what anyone who has ever had their meatballs stolen contemplates: stabbed the meatball thief in the arm.

  • Cops: Woman Shoplifts $144 Worth of Eye Shadow: A woman in Fayetteville, Ark., is accused of trying to stuff $144 worth of eye shadow from a local department store into her purse. Brandy Allen is charged with shoplifting and disorderly conduct, the latter because she became abusive when confronted by a store manager, say police. Her booking photo does not help her case.
  • Guy Busted With DARE Lion Stuffed With Pot, LSD, Coke: The DARE lion "Darin" is in some trouble. To be more exact, the upstate New York man who cops charged with stuffing him full of pot, cocaine, and LSD is in some trouble. Police say Gregory Bolognese, 22, was caught at a Greyhound bus station in Plattsburgh with the drug-stuffed anti-drug mascot—which was wearing a black T-shirt bearing the motto "DARE To Resist Drugs and Violence."
  • This Burglar Picked a Bad Time for a Nap: An alleged burglar in Sarasota County, Fla., was literally caught napping by deputies, who paused to take a few photos of the man snoozing next to a bag of jewelry before waking him up and taking him to jail. A maid called police when she discovered Dion Davis, 29, asleep on a bed.
