For reasons unknown, but easily guessed, GunBroker.com has taken down an auction listing for the gun George Zimmerman used to kill Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman had just listed the 9mm pistol with a starting bid of $5,000, and the auction was set to start at 11am Eastern Thursday. By 11:18am Eastern, the listing was gone, the AP reports.
Zimmerman had stated in the auction listing that the Smithsonian was interested in acquiring the gun, which he just recently got back from the US Justice Department after being acquitted in Martin's 2012 death. But the museum tweeted Thursday, "We have never expressed interest in collecting George Zimmerman’s firearm, and have no plans to ever collect or display it in any museums."
