The actor who played Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek series has died in a "freak accident," TMZ reports. Anton Yelchin, 27, was killed after his vehicle rolled down the steep driveway of his Studio City home and pinned him against a brick mailbox and security gate, the LA County coroner confirmed to the Los Angeles Times. Yelchin was found by friends, who went to the actor's house about 1am Sunday after he was a no-show at a planned rehearsal.

The Russian-born Yelchin began acting as a child, per the Times, and later starred in movies such as Alpha Dog and Charlie Bartlett. Actors tweeted their reaction to the news, with Anna Kendrick saying, "This is unreal. Anton Yelchin is such a talent. Such a huge loss." Foul play is not suspected, TMZ reports.
