A pregnant woman was fatally shot in front of her boyfriend and 11-month-old daughter, but her unborn baby boy survived, the Visalia Times-Delta reports. On Thursday, Vanessa Oviedo, 27 years old and 35 weeks pregnant, was riding in a car with four other people, including her young daughter and 23-year-old boyfriend, Andrew Aguirre. According to the Fresno Bee, Oviedo's car was stopped in a left-turn lane when another car pulled up alongside it and opened fire. Oviedo was shot in the head, and Aguirre took a bullet to the leg but managed to drive the to the hospital. Doctors successfully performed an emergency C-section, and Oviedo's baby boy is in stable condition.

Police say the shooting appears to be gang related. "This wasn't random," Sgt. Mark Feller tells the Times-Delta. "We believe this vehicle was targeted." But, it's unclear who in Oviedo's car was the intended target. Police haven't named any suspects in the shooting. Oviedo had been planning her daughter's first birthday when she was killed.
