Social media platforms apparently decided to take off for the holiday weekend a day early: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Twitter all had problems Wednesday, according to CNN. Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were experiencing problems with images being uploaded and displayed, while Twitter was having problems with direct message delivery and notifications. The problems were being reported in pockets worldwide, per Down Detector.

"We're aware that some people and businesses are currently having trouble uploading or sending images, videos and other files on our apps. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible," a Facebook spokesperson said on behalf of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, adding that an attack was not to blame for the problems. The Verge notes that the image outage revealed how the company's AI tags photos, as, in the absence of photos being displayed, text instead appeared saying things like: "image may contain: people smiling, people dancing, wedding and indoor."
