(Newser) – Five alleged 9/11 plotters finally have a trial date—and it's not exactly around the corner. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four others will jointly go on trial at Guantanamo Bay starting Jan. 11, 2021, the New York Times reports. A military judge, Col. W. Shane Cohen of the Air Force, set the date in an order that lays out other deadlines before the trial. It's the accused jihadists' first start-of-trial trial date after seven years of requests from prosecutors. Arraigned on the case in 2012, the accused will face a military jury at a war court compound known as Camp Justice. Mohammad, a former al-Qaeda bigwig, is up on charges including murder in violation of the crimes of war, hijacking aircraft, and terrorism, per the New York Post. (Some think Mohammed will die before the case is resolved.)
